How to Activate Office 2024 With a Product Key (Step by Step)

You've bought Office 2024 and now you're staring at an installer and a 25-character key. Good news: activation takes about five minutes. Here is the full process, including what to do when it doesn't go smoothly.

Before you start

• Uninstall any older Office first (Settings → Apps). Two Office versions fighting each other is the number one cause of activation errors.
• Connect to the internet and keep your key handy. If you bought from us, it's in My Licence Keys in your account.
• Download Office only from the official link in your order. Never from a random Drive or torrent link.

Step by step

1. Run the installer and wait for it to finish. It installs Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the other apps for your edition.
2. Open Word. A sign-in or activation window usually appears.
3. Enter your 25-character product key and click Activate. If the window doesn't appear, go to File → Account → Change Product Key (or "Activate Product").
4. Accept the licence terms. When it says Product Activated, you're done.

To confirm later, open File → Account in any Office app. You should see "Product Activated" with the name of your edition.

If online activation fails

• "Key already used / limit reached": choose activate by telephone in the wizard. Our phone activation guide walks through it.
• Error says edition mismatch: the key must match the edition you installed (Professional Plus key → Professional Plus installer).
• Stuck on "Unlicensed Product": remove old Office leftovers, restart, reinstall, and activate again.
