"Product key finder" is a popular search, and a risky one: many of the free tools online carry adware or malware. Before you download anything, here is what's actually possible, and what isn't.
The honest truth about recovering keys
Modern Windows and Office only keep part of the key on your PC, usually the last five characters. So a finder tool showing a full key is often reading a generic placeholder, not your real one. What can really be recovered depends on how it was installed.
