Many laptops in India come with Windows Home. Then one day you need Remote Desktop, BitLocker encryption or Hyper-V, and the feature is greyed out. You do not need to reinstall. The upgrade happens in place, in about ten minutes, and keeps all your files and apps.
What you get with Pro
- BitLocker: encrypts your drive so a lost laptop doesn't leak your data
- Remote Desktop host: connect to this PC from anywhere
- Hyper-V: run virtual machines
- Domain / Azure AD join and Group Policy: for office networks
- Windows Sandbox and more control over updates
Step by step
- Back up important files (just in case).
- Open Settings โ System โ Activation (Windows 10: Update & Security โ Activation).
- Click Change product key (or "Upgrade your edition of Windows").
- Enter the Pro key or the Home-to-Pro upgrade key and click Next โ Start.
- Windows downloads the upgrade, restarts once or twice and finishes in a few minutes.
- Check Activation again. It should say Windows 11 (or 10) Pro is activated.
Which key do you need?
A normal Pro key works for a Home to Pro upgrade. We also offer a lower-priced Windows 10 Home to Pro upgrade key for the same purpose:
Windows 10 Home to Pro Upgradeโน299.00Common problems
- "The key can't be used to upgrade": the key's edition doesn't match. Use a Pro key, not a Home key.
- Error 0xC004F050: check the activation error guide.
- Upgrade keeps restarting: run Windows Update first, then retry.

Frequently asked questions
Do I lose my files or apps when upgrading Home to Pro?
No. It's an edition switch, not a reinstall.
Can I go back from Pro to Home?
Not directly. It needs a clean install of Home.
Is Pro faster than Home?
No. Performance is the same. Pro only adds features.
